The Sailing World Championships Aarhus 2018 collaborates with the Danish company World Perfect. The Company deals with waste management. The engagement with Worlds 2018 involves a number of concrete measures on the boats and on land.
World Perfect is passionate about sustainable business and product development and has together with Aarhus designer Jan Pedersen from Design Big, developed a waste bag intended for active use in a coach Rib.
The challenge of waste at sea
The challenge during major events such as The Worlds is that garbage from the sailors daily intake of food and drink ends up at the bottom of the coaches Ribs. From here it is likely to blow overboard. The Danish national team coach, Peter Hansen has been in the development process of the bag. He is today ambassador at the project.
Development of a Waste bag
The bag is under development and has been tested by a number of coaches at the Aarhus Sailing Week – the test event before the Worlds in 2018. The objective is to make the bag as flexible as possible and adapt it to the needs that the coaches experience during the sailing.
The goal is to be able to develop and produce the bag for use in all of the coach Ribs at the Worlds 2018.
The sustainability element has several aspects. Therefore, the intention is that the coaches should be able to reuse the bags after the Worlds – during training and sailing events in the future. Also of course at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
