We have looked very much forward to writing this headline. Tomorrow is the day when several years of preparations, logistics, set ups, and planning will all come together.

1,400 sailors have taken the (for some) long road to the city of smiles in order to join the battle for World Championship medals – and of course the very much-coveted spots at the Olympics in Tokyo 2020.

Tomorrow, the Hempel Sailing World Championship begins, and everything is now ready for an event unlike anything Aarhus has ever experienced before.

Don’t miss the great opening show

Time: Thursday the 2nd of August from 7.30 PM to 9.00 PM
Location: ”Havnepladsen” between DOKK1 and Navitas

The Worlds will officially open in style at the big opening show tomorrow night. On stage you’ll find the world-famous band out of Aarhus: Michael Learns to Rock, among others. Furthermore, you can meet the 1,400 sailors as the nations will be introduced during the show in a completely new way.

The big opening show will be spiced up with surprises, and the championships will officially be opened by the mayor of Aarhus, Jacob Bundsgaard and the president of World Sailing, Kim Andersen.

Hundreds of experiences await

At the maritime festival you can try out all different kinds of sailing and watersport, theater, games, museums, guided tours, and a whole lot of other experiences.

Here you will find the program for the maritime festival. You can also keep it in your pocket by downloading the free app, Aarhusguiden.

As always, you can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

We look forward to welcoming everyone here in Aarhus!
